A Weekend To Remember: Prague/Dresden

Yay, Yay, Yay, we finally had a somewhat normal week with a routine! Even though school here is way different than school in America, it was nice to have a familiar “class getting cancelled” type of thing to happen because our teacher got sick on Monday. The only difference here is that instead of finding out from a simple email that class was cancelled we got the news that our professor actually had to do to the hospital. Going to the hospital sounds way worse than it actually is though so don’t be alarmed. When someone states that they are going to the hospital here it basically means they are just going to the typical clinic as they would in the United States. As the week progressed we were able to go to class and learn about the Judaism and Christianity. This was quite interesting considering I have never really been able to talk about religion in any class throughout my high school or college education.

Wednesday's are always a really fun night in the town of Olomouc, but unfortunately we had to get up early Thursday morning for our first field trip to Prague and Dresden, so I ended up getting only about 2 hours of sleep that night! Once we got to the train station on Thursday morning in Olomouc I was absolutely exhausted and I could kind of feel a tingling of sickness coming in. I was lucky enough that I had at least already spent a few days in Prague and seen the main sights so being sick wouldn't completely ruin the enjoyment of this part of the trip

The view walking up to the Prague Castle
The first day of our field trip consisted of going on an hour long tour around the city and the rest of the night remained free! The following day were able to visit the Prague castle (everyone was pretty excited about this), but unfortunately this site was a very touristy location so we were not able to take it all in as much as we had hoped.
The delicious thin crust pizza
The next day I was ready to get out of Prague and venture off and go to a different city, which was Dresden, Germany. Going to this city I had no idea how much I would fall in love with it. We arrived shortly before lunch time and then found some cute Italian place to eat that was absolutely adorable! What is great is that most of the pizza here is all thin crust, so you do not have to feel as guilty when eating the entire thing (whoops again), but it is okay no regrets here! During this part of the trip we also paid five euros (which is about $5.60 American dollars) to climb to the top of a tower to experience the most beautiful view of Dresden.  I think I left part of my heart back there in Germany, because seven hours was surely not enough. Germany will definitely have to be an option for one of the free weekends coming up.

Dresden, Germany
One of my favorite things about this field trip was experiencing my first train ride! It was very comfortable, and I was also able to chat with another young woman about traveling tips around Europe. Depending on what train you are on, there is a good chance there is CHEAP food that you can buy. Why do I say this you ask? Well I might have gotten sushi as well as some cheesecake for only 89 Korunas which is about $3.68 American dollars. HOW COOL.

Things I love so far:
1. Food
2. Cheap food
3. Free water
4. Trains
5. Dresden, Germany

Things I miss so far:
1. Free water
2. Free bathrooms
3. Grass/dirt (SO MUCH COBBLESTONE)
Cau!
